What is Riso Printing Technique?
Riso printing, short for Risograph printing, is a unique and vibrant printmaking process that combines elements of screen printing and photocopying. Here's a quick overview of the technique:
- Origin: Developed in Japan in the 1980s by the Riso Kagaku Corporation.
- Process: Utilizes a digital duplicator, creating prints using a stencil (or master) and soy-based inks.
- Layers: Each color is printed separately, often resulting in slight misalignments that contribute to its distinct aesthetic.
- Quality: Known for its rich, vivid colors and textures, offering a handcrafted feel.
Riso printing is popular for art prints, zines, posters, and more, celebrated for its unique, artistic qualities and eco-friendly attributes.
